Uncertain times: Canada's economy shows signs of cooling

Article Abstract:

Economists predict that Canada's tourism industry will be one of few sectors that will be spared the effects of a downturn in summer 1995, which they describe as a mid-cycle correction. Unemployment is the biggest worry, because widespread job insecurity could cause a drop in consumer spending.

US automobile manufacturers want Pres Clinton to impose a large tariff on imported vehicles in an effort to spur further interest in their products. The effects of the approved Free Trade Agreement and a good relationship between manufacturers and government on Canada's economy are analyzed.
