People who have worked in private sector or served as senior government officials take up senior positions in Universities. Rob Southey of Cordiner King that recruits personnel for co-operates stated that universities need people with commercial judgment and links with the commercial world as some universities are receiving 30% federal funding in the year 2005 as compared to 90% in the 1990s period.

A review of the demand for real estate in Sydney, Australia is presented. Some observers had suggested following the Sydney Olympic Games 2000 the market would decline but others point out the market was due to fall anyway because of market forces. Local experts suggest the games were irrelevant to the real estate market.

In April 2001, the Australian Federal Court ruled to uphold a patent for a business process in Catuity versus Welcome Real-Time SA, in a decision that may change the business of patent law in Australia. In the United States, the business of patents has become more expensive than that of public liability litigation.
