Vacation-getaway sales going through the roof

Article Abstract:

Sales of vacation homes are on the upbeat because of several factors including low interest rates that make second homes more affordable. A survey conducted by the National Association of Realtors revealed that 107,000 new and used vacation homes were sold in 1997. The Census Bureau's Housing Vacancy Survey showed an increase of 7.5% the number of homes used on a seasonal or occasional basis, compared with a 2.6% in the number of all homes, from 1995 to 1997. More flexible terms for vacation-home mortgages offered by lenders have likewise contributed to a significant rise in the sale of vacation homes.

Colleges target card solicitors

Article Abstract:

College and university administrators are instituting procedures which prohibit or limit the activities of credit card marketers within their campuses. The administrators are concerned that many students have become heavily in debt and are increasingly opposing the aggressive sales practices of some marketers. Some colleges are trying to restrain the marketers by imposing charges on their solicitation activities or by requiring them to disseminate educational brochures on credit cards or debt management.
