Vancouver computer whiz bets on venture with gambling tycoon

Article Abstract:

Eyeball.com Network Inc. (Vancouver) has partnered with gambling tycoon Stanley Ho to launch an on-line casino called DrHo.com. The offshore site will allow gamblers to play games such as blackjack, poker, and roulette in real time, with live dealers. The venture has entered controversy since Internet gambling is illegal in some jurisdiction. However, Chris Piche, chairman and CEO of Eyeball.com, says that he is only concerned with the infrastructure of the site and the legalities are handled by Mr. Ho's company. Venture capital will help QImaging develop

Burnaby, BC-based Quantitative Imaging Corp., which produces digital camera equipment, has received nearly $1 million in ventrue capital financing in 1999. QImaging, which is led by president Alexander Fernandes, builds digital imaging systems that cost between $15,000 and $30,000.
