Vantage clients okay proposal

Article Abstract:

Vantage Securities Inc.'s proposal to creditors received overwhelming support from the company's former clients and financial planners. The plan by the bankrupt mutual fund broker would return to customers all of their assets, but will not allow the financial planners to claim any commission owed them. The plan gives the right to trustee KPMG to collect a share from each customer, any shortfall arising as a result of from administrative costs owed it, and the customers will make a claim to a C$3.2-million contingency trust fund created under the B.C. Securities Act.

Alliance Forest Product Inc's failed takeover bid for Pacifica Papers Inc of Vancouver, British Columbia, was in large part due to faulty investor relations work by the acquiring company, said observers. Montreal, Quebec- based Alliance Forest failed to stop leakage reports to the media about its discussions with Pacifica. Morover, Alliance failed to explain properly to investors how the deal will benefit them.

Boise tops rival's offer for Forex

Article Abstract:

Boise Cascade Corp tops the C$600-million bid of Louisiana-Pacific Corp to purchase Quebec, Canada-based Groupe Forex Inc with its offer of C$700 million. The latest move raises the stakes for the Canada's top producer of oriented strandboard. Boise Cascade, based in Boise, ID, said that Forex's integration into the business would yield positive returns as well as cost-efficiency.
