Air Canada could bear brunt of merger layoffs

Article Abstract:

Air Canada could face the majority of layoffs that are set to result from its proposed merger with Canadian Airlines International Ltd. The issue of retrenchment became important after Onex Corp announced its intention to buy the two carriers and merge them. Downsizing in Air Canada is considered to be the more advantageous option since laid off employees in that particular airline would get the minimum payout allowed by federal law.
