Vodafone likely to bid $127B for rival today

Article Abstract:

Vodafone AirTouch, the largest cellular telephone company in the world, is positioned to bid $127 billion for Mannesmann AG of Germany, in what is considered to be the biggest hostile takeover ever attempted. The $249- per-share offer became possible following the failure by Mannesmann to hinder investment bank Goldman Sachs from advising UK-based Vadafone. Mannesmann is expected to continue its legal tactics to undermine Vodafone's move.
