Article Abstract:

USA Technologies, backed by I.B.M. Global Services has introduced e-Port, a device that can be attached to a candy machine or the like that would allow a customer to order items from Web sites. This opens the door for marketers to use interactive advertising, targeting customers in places like restrooms and coffee shops. The e-Port can link up a consumer to news, weather reports and electronic mail as well.

Hewlett introduces a powerful computer; servers revamped in two-year effort

Article Abstract:

HP's unveiled Superdome, the main weapon in its campaign to regain Unix server market share from Sun Microsystems. The server will start at $400, 000. HP plans to price it so customer's won't pay for unused processing power. It has 150 orders for the machine. Sun plans an upgraded model of its servers this fall. The company sold $5.17 bil in computer hardware last quarter, of $11.82 bil total revenue. Shares are down, mostly on disappointing server sales last quarter and uncertainty over HP's acquisition of the PricewaterhouseCoopers consulting business for $18 bil.
