Web sites set to challenge NBC's control in Sydney

Article Abstract:

The International Olympic Committeee has restricted web sites' coverage of the Sydney Olympics to help National Broadcasting Company Inc, the official broadcaster of the sports event, not lose TV audience, thereby affect its deals with advertisers. The IOC only allowed websites to feature results of the games but has prohibited them from showing video clips of the Olympic events. To ensure their compliance, the IOC has hired French company, Datops, to search through the Web for violators.

E-privacy: FTC studies 'profiling' by Web sites

Article Abstract:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will hold a meeting with Dept of Commerce officials over the emergence of 'online profiling.' The practice involves online advertisers who post banner ads that allows them to track a user's Internet movements. This gives ad companies a basis for creating detailed profiles of Web users, a practice that many users are unaware of. The FTC sees the trend as an invasion of privacy.
