What can be done?

Article Abstract:

Criticism of the media stemming from portrayals of sex and violence may be addressed with several individual and group efforts. For instance, parents may limit their children's viewing hours, monitor and discuss the shows with their children or turn off the television when programs they find objectionable are aired. Efforts such as complaining to television stations and political lobbying may also be necessary. However, the most effective control against violence may be to address the problem of poverty which is viewed as a root of violence in society.
