What makes a child molester?

Article Abstract:

Studies of child molesters have yielded data on what characterizes pedophiles and incestous persons. Child molesters come from all walks of life, age groups and may be a member of either sex. These people are usually victims of abuse themselves and most of them are socially unskilled to attract their own peers. Families with confused member roles are also prone to sexual maltreatment. Based on the outcomes of offender treatment programs, some experts now believe that sex offenders cannot be cured.

Do government regulations improve the quality of child care?

Article Abstract:

The government has the responsibility of regulating child care such as requiring programs to follow basic health and safety practices and monitoring their compliance. Research has also shown that states with strong licensing standards have better child care programs. On the other hand, however, licensing and regulating day-care do not guarantee quality. Furthermore, there is no universal definition for high quality care. If there is, the government has no right to make the rules; parents do.

Arguing the number of child abuse cases

Article Abstract:

Survey results showing that 2.7 million cases of child sexual abuse have occurred in the US might have been based on unfounded reports. Most experts have reduced this figure to an estimated one million cases. However, there remains the problem of unreported incidents as well as false reports. Some groups are now suggesting that reporting procedures be altered to generate more reliable and accurate data.
