Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are becoming a multibillion-dollar industry, spurred by a growing number of global conflicts, and increased outsourcing of aid work by Western governments and the boom in private philanthropy. However, it is becoming clear that NGOs have vested political interests, as well as financial motives with the need to attract aid, but unlike governments, they are not elected, and unlike businesses they are not subject to the curbing forces of the marketplace.
