Why Di chucked Charles: will a separation bring down the monarchy?

Prince Charles and Princess Diana have separated. The separation may be a prelude to a divorce, which could prevent Charles from ascending to the throne. If the couple does not divorce public sentiment may preclude a separated Diana from becoming queen.
