Worn-out middle managers may get protection

Article Abstract:

Midlevel managers and supervisors are not covered by labor standards legislation as global competition and technological advances have raised the possibility that they would be available 24-7. Issue of whether managers and supervisors should get protection by the labor code restrictions on hours of work and their entitlement to overtime pay or time off in lieu if they exceed the standard workweek is under discussion.

Wal-Mart must give union access

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union had unionized Wal-Mart's meat department only to watch as the discount retailer closed the department. Regulators demanded that unions be allowed to organize workers at Wal-Mart Canada Corp.'s Quesnel, BC store.
