Yukos Warns of Export Halt, Driving Oil Futures to Record

A warning from beleaguered oil company Yukos that it could be forced to stop exporting petroleum caused crude oil futures to jump higher than they have in the past 21 years. The price surge was a reminder of Russia's significance as the second -largest oil exporter after Saudi Arabia.

After a court ruling in which it was decided that the assets of Yukos Oil Co. would be frozen while government investigations into tax payments continues, the company declared that its operations would be paralyzed, and as a result, the price of oil increased.

Crude Oil Soars to 4-Week High On Storm-Related Shutdowns

Article Abstract:

Hurricane Ivan has forced refineries in the Gulf of Mexico to decrease production or shut down completely. As a result crude oil prices and gasoline futures increased.
