Build your fortune

Article Abstract:

Building a fortune, starting with A$5000 and developing and following a plan using dollar cost averaging, is discussed. Savings should be put to work and investment opportunities exploited, although the market has not recovered yet. Five investment grade managed funds, six stock picks, five cash management accounts, five cash management trusts, five call accounts and five one-year and five two-year term deposits are listed and briefly discussed. Some margin lenders in Australia, among the Leveraged Equities, have been fast to respond to the economic slowdown and have launched new products, some quite complicated and requiring caution. Table lists margin lenders and what they offer.

Outlook remains healthy

Article Abstract:

The outlook in the economy in Australia remains healthy. GDP numbers and interest rates have been the two dominant issues. The central bank has cut official rates and was good for equity markets. Companies that have shown good earning and are trading at low multiples are discussed and include Sigma, second in size among the pharmaceutical wholesalers of Australia, OPSM Protector, and international company primarily in retailing of eyewear and eyecare products, Sonic Healthcare, in the pathology and radiology market. A sell recommendation is geven for Auspine, Adelaide Brighton and Wattyl.

Many mergers involving an Australian company and a company in another country have been announced recently and investors should put more effort into considering whether deals create shareholder value than into understanding how the deal is structured. Structures of deals will be explained in printed materials flooding into mailboxes. .
