The hotel sector is coming out of the deepest malaise, after the tragedy of September 11,2001, the Bali bombings, further terrorist threats, the collapse of Ansett and the war in Iraq. The Grand Hotel Group has weathered the storm and turned it into profit in 2004 and has pushed extensively into external catering opportunities outside the property walls to gain more profit based on the major skills of their people and expertise in food and beverage.

Experts state that the wave of property price has increased followed by the more pause in values and is driven by sea change-seeking prices in Australia. Australian Property Monitors' research director Louis Christopher states that prices in several coastal areas have slowed, while other such as Bryon Bay in NSW, Margaret River in Western Australia and Queensland's Sunshine Coast, are delivering positive growth.
