Housing price data overhaul

Article Abstract:

The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) reviews its procedures and is looking at using property exchange dates rather than settlements dates to determine median prices. Recent figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show that house prices around Australia climbed by an average of 2.5% in the March quarter of 2004.

The Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW) remains bullish and its oversupply is expected to subside in 2006, increasing rental yields as vacancy rates drop. Lenders are stretching mortgages to 40-year mortgage period as the housing costs are rising.
