Income securities pose dilemma

Income securities are a form of floating rate security that were popular when first introduced by National Australia Bank but they have recently had poor returns. Long term investors might hold on to them for a reasonable return but short term investors should sell if the price goes up.

Long term investors are advised not to be taken in by the apparent 50 percent reduction in capital gains tax proposed by John Ralph, in his review of business taxation. The dangers and benefits to investors on capital gains tax are put forth.

Attributing the blame

The September 11 incident or slack corporate control are blamed for the poor returns on investments. The basic causes however seem to be the speculative settings and surplus valuations.
