Rental's hidden traps: A hefty GST bill awaits property investors who rent rather than sell

Article Abstract:

Renting out property provided the investors with much needed cash-flow, but changed the GST status of investment as it had important consequences because the substantial input tax credits claimed during construction were not available once the use of property changed to rental. Property investors, who build new residential houses to units for sale, are expected to face a hefty GST bill if they decide to rent out the property.

The Government of Australia after eight years of debate and political sparring has finally got its choice of superannuation legislation passed into a law and hence from July 2005 a dramatic increase in the number of people who can choose the super fund will be effective. Superannuation is one's own money that one cannot spend but by taking a long-term approach and proper investing one can reap the benefits in the future.
