Tax shelters enjoy a brief reprieve

Article Abstract:

The 1998-99 federal budget of Australia appears harmless to individual investors, and it is true that existing tax shelters and tax reduction strategies will not be limited for the most part. The change is in the innovative use of self-managed, or do-it-yourself, superannuation, or retirement, accounts. Changes are likely to be made in tax shelters as future federal budgets are put into place. Related abuses will be targeted.

Don't share it with the taxman

Article Abstract:

Tax issues should be considered when planning changes in portfolios. Capital gains can have a disastrous effect on income realized through share gains. Investors should consider utilizing losses to offset capital gains. Investors can also sell shares that are free of capital gains tax, but should consider the loss of this tax-free status. Consider using derivatives to reduce income on capital gains.

Four steps to lowering tax

Article Abstract:

Australians should take advantage of four strategies to reduce the impact of taxes during the 1997-98 tax year. Australians should remember to defer receiving assessable income whenever possible. Also increasing deductible outlays is another way to decrease tax bills. Superannuation tax shelters should be used as much as possible and always think about ways to reduce the impact of capital gains.
