The new BMW Mini, to be available in 3/02, is not a flying brick, experience having had an effect on the aerodynamic design in the 22 years since a Mini was last sold in Australia. Younger drivers will see a stylish, modern city car fitting their lifestyle and self-image in various ways, with retro now in fashion. It has a 1.6 liter, 85-kilowatt engine that comes from a joint venture with Chrysler. BMW is trying to get something from the ashes of its takeover of the UK Rover group, later cut loose.
