Alcoholism is a disease that damages families as well as individuals. Unhealthy coping mechanisms develop in family members to accommodate the alcoholic parent or child. Psychological and social problems related to alcoholism are discussed.

Bill Lowe spent more than three years in a Japanese prison camp after being captured in the Philippines. He was shipped to a camp in Japan in 1944 and was there when the war ended. He believes he survived because he never lost hope.
