Article Abstract:

The Family Law Legislation Amendment Bill, which came into effect in December 28, 2002, effectively amended the Family Law Act to allow the division of superannuation interests in the event of marriage breakdown and to regulate how that division occurs. The law does not apply to products that are offered by life companies that are able to accept superannuation monies.
