Article Abstract:

The volunteer structure of the American Assn. of Retired Persons will be rearranged. This move is aimed at improving the AARP's accessibility to older people and increasing its visibility in communities across the nation. The information center was introduced to assist in the achievement of this goal.

Those born in 1946, the first year of the baby boom generation, will reach their 50th birthday in 1996 and become eligible for membership in the American Assn of Retired Persons. Through the organization, they can help work for social issues such as health care and economic security.

There are over $1 trillion in public-pension fund assets, and these funds must be safeguarded. Too often states may be tempted to use the public-pension funds to help in some financial crisis that is unrelated to the security of the participants's retirement.
