Biking your way to the top

Article Abstract:

Tips from the cyclist Nicholas Crane and details about where one can mountain bike in Britain can help one enjoy a nice mountain biking holiday. Crane takes special efforts to travel light without leaving out any of the necessary equipment. The British Mountain Bike Federation and Forestry Commission encourage biking by making available relevant reading material, by putting one in touch with local clubs and by allowing cycling in woodlands. David Robson and John Holmes' 'Rough Rides' and four mountain biking magazines are good sources of routes. Various companies specialize in mountain biking holiday tours.

De Gaulle's offer the territories can't afford to refuse

Article Abstract:

The recent controversy over France's decision to resume nuclear weapons testing at Mururoa in the South Pacific has attracted renewed attention to the issue of France's role in French Polynesia and New Caledonia. There is a growing move towards independence in these and other French colonies, but it is unlikely that they will ever achieve this goal. Residents of French colonies do not really wish to lose the privileges of French citizenship, and are aware that independence would bring a sharp fall in their standard of living.

Privatization and the public/private partnership

Article Abstract:

Public/private partnerships are viable alternatives in addressing problems in road construction. This is because of the cost effectiveness and the lesser time consumed by private firms in completing the projects. This strategy also allows single firms to perform multiple functions such as design, building and maintenance and consequently increase the pace of the project. This strategy provides a supplement to the traditional partnership created by the Federal-Aid Highway System.
