Mercury's two alternatives

Article Abstract:

In December 2000 it was decided that mercury regulation was appropriate and necessary for coal and oil based power plants, as there was a reasonable link between methyl mercury in fish and mercury emissions from those plants. Though current research has not established a direct link between the two, the industry is participating in new and ongoing mercury research and monitoring projects aimed at further clarifying this issue.

The corporate governance risk

Article Abstract:

The corporate scandals that brought a renewed emphasis to the importance of strong corporate governance also have made shareholders, investors, and regulators more in tune to the risks associated with it. Since some of the breakdowns are caused due to wrong accounting or due to the malpractices followed in the organization, the companies to avoid this would strictly follow corporate governance policies.

Sarbanes-Oxley: view from the top

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act was passed in the United States so as to ensure corporate accountability and transparency in the working of the top level management. Implementation of the Act led to changes in controls and compliance practices at many of the U.S. multinational companies.
