Single-stage dual priority regulator for photovoltaic systems

Article Abstract:

The use of a voltage regulator in photovoltaic systems supplying two unequal loads is advantageous for homes and medical clinics in places where connection to a utility grid is not possible. The Single-Stage Dual Priority Regulator(SSDPR) charges two batteries of different load demands, a high priority load and a low priority load. The main battery is supplied first and its charge duty cycle is reduced as it approaches full charge, thus, the low priority load can be supplied without jeopardizing the reliability of the main load.

Optimal growth and land preservation

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the problem of land preservation. An optimal economic growth model that used land as a control variable along with consumption was presented. The model was extended to the case of a growing population wherein the Cobb-Douglas technology and utility function was used as an approach to the problem. Results indicate that there exists a set of balanced growth paths that are compatible with constant allocation of land if the rate of discount is not extremely low.

Optimal harvesting of mutualistic ecological systems

Article Abstract:

The optimal control theory was used to model dynamic interactions between two mutualistic natural resources. The stability of a harvested system with regeneration functions of the type Lotka-Volterra was also examined. An optimal harvesting policy was derived and then its outcome was compared with the standard theory of single species harvesting. The presence of a region of instability with a catastrophic outcome was detected.
