Toward the best bet: game theory

Article Abstract:

The California Power Exchange is one utility company that has adopted the concept of game theory, the analysis of strategic relations between agents whose personal success rely on the behavior of the whole group of agents. The exchange handles energy negotiations including investor-owned utilities in California, the process being considered as a non cooperative game. The major participants are the investor-owned utilities, independent power producers, power marketers, and big commercial customers.

Think fee income

Article Abstract:

Electric utilities can increase their earnings despite declining electricity margins by initiating customer fees. This, however, will require them to offer energy management services to commercial customers. Such a strategy creates a win-win relationship because it is based on selling comfort instead of kilowatt-hours and converting fuel revenue to nonfuel revenue. In addition, it lowers a customer's gas and electricity bill and generates higher income for utilities.
