Cloning of a 'D3' receptor subtype expands dopamine receptor family

Article Abstract:

The new dopamine D3 clone receptor subtype features amino acid sequences and genomic patterns that are highly homologous with D2 receptors. This indicates that both receptors originate from a common precursor protein structure. Additionally, the pharmacological interactions of D3 receptors are relatively similar to that of D2 receptors. Several dopaminergic antagonists exhibit greater potency in D2 than in D3 receptors which is in contrast with the action of some agonists. These results indicate that many of the dopaminergic effects on the CNS may have been caused by D3 receptor rather than D2 receptor mechanisms.

Investigation of receptors responsive to pyrimidines

Article Abstract:

The significance of the pyrimidine nucleotide receptor's physiological function is explained. Pyrimidine nucleotides mediate the regulation of cellular activity and increase the effectiveness of neurotransmitters in synaptic transmission. Studies using models for pyrimidine receptors indicate that modulatory sites exist on pyrimidinoceptors. Several factors contributed to the hampered studies on the receptors such as contamination of commercial formulae for purines, pyrimidines and their antagonists and degradation of nucleotides.

P2Y receptors: in the middle of the road

Article Abstract:

A roundtable on P2Y receptors sponsored by the Association Thrombose Sanofi-Synthelabo was held in Rome, Sept. 23-25, 1999. Topics include the coupling of cloned P2Y receptors to adenylate cyclase, additional transduction mechanisms, and the characterization of the P2T(AC) receptor.
