GERMANY: DEGUSSA-HULS ABANDONING ZEOLITE

Article Abstract:

After efforts to find a buyer for the entire division, Degussa-Huls is to close its zeolite production plants in Wesseling, Germany, and Taipei, Taiwan. By the end of March 2001 the German chemicals group is to take a decision whether to close also the factory in Miranda de Ebro, Spain. There are several potential buyers for Degussa-Huls' zeolite technology. The decision to withdraw from the zeolite market, which is explained with overcapacity in the world market, affects 110 staff. The 40 staff in Wesseling will be offered alternative employment within the company.
