ITALY/SWITZERLAND: ENDRESS+HAUSER, ORSI TEAM UP

Article Abstract:

Endress + Hauser of Reinach, Switzerland, concluded a strategic alliance with and acquired a minority stake in the Italian Genoa-based Orsi group, a producer of software for process technology and manufacturing management. Together with the Italian partner, the Swiss producer of measuring technology and process automation systems is to supply comprehensive problem solutions to customers. Also the market presence of Orsi is to be expanded. The company with 350 staff is already represented with branches in Germany, France, the UK, Spain, the US, Brazil and South Africa. Orsi expects the market for its systems in Europe and North America to grow 30% in the next few years.

SWITZERLAND: SWISSCOM DIVESTS TECHNOLOGY UNIT

Article Abstract:

Swisscom is selling the Test & Measurement Park Management (T&M) group in Bern to Schweizerische Elektrotechnische Verein (SEV) with effect from 1 April 2000. T&M runs a calibration laboratory for a number of electrical measures, maintains an integral information system for testing means, and is a consultant in measurement technology and the use of measuring equipment.

Aventis Pharma has sold its 40% stake in Rhone-Poulenc (India) to Nicholas Piramal. Aventis Pharma holds a 51% stake in Hoechst Marion Roussel India, the fourth-biggest pharmaceutical supplier in India .
