SWITZERLAND/GERMANY: WELEDA RESULTS FOR 1998

Article Abstract:

The Swiss Arlesheim-based company Weleda AG, a producer of anthroposophic pharmaceuticals and body care products, expects a 4-5% increase in sales in 1999. A slight fall is anticipated in profits due to a slump in the pharmaceutical business. For 1998 Weleda reports a 14% fall in net profit to SFr 4.59mn. Due to dynamic sales of body care products, turnover increased 6.1% to SFr 170mn. The fall of profits is explained with investments in Germany, which increased 207% to DM 16.9mn. Germany contributes about 60% to Weleda's turnover and about 75% to the company's profits.
