Scent industry 'running hard' to maintain sales level

Article Abstract:

Prices have been rising faster than retail sales for fragrances. Perfume sales have dropped and cologne and toilet water sales have increased 18.4 percent. Competition has caused advertising expenditures to exceed sales gains. Although the total dollar sales picture is disappointing, the fragrance industry is dynamic, introducing innovative changes and marketing techniques.

Fast-growing ethnic market nears $5 billion annual sales

Article Abstract:

Both cosmetic and toilet preparation manufacturers are trying to direct their sales to the Spanish speaking and Black consumers. This group totals almost 40 million people. Retail sales for these groups is estimated to be close to $5 billion a year and is one of the fastest growing sectors of the market. The buying habits of these ethnic consumers are discussed.

Doing what comes naturally attracts the consumer

Article Abstract:

Many companies are moving into the "natural" market for sales. With the current interest in health and natural products, the right promotional program and budget can make sales. To succeed the product must establish that it offers a benefit and must have a home in the retail business.
