Environmental risk problems and the language of ethics

Article Abstract:

Proposed solutions to the environmental hazards of some business operations must meet criteria such as ethical responsibility to be acceptable. The reluctance of business leaders and decision makers to use ethical language in decision making undermines their ability to deal with ethical issues. Decision makers in businesses must recognize that moral language is designed to harmonize multiple interests. One problem is that many decision makers think of ethics as a matter of praise and blame rather than as a problem-solving tool.

Ethical behavior as a strategic choice by large corporations: the interactive effect of marketplace competition, industry structure and firm resources

Article Abstract:

Business ethics in a situational context is analyzed substantially in terms of individual conduct within the institutional framework. While an individual-to-institution-based focus in business ethics analysis is important, it provides only a partial explanation of the conditions which might determine unethical behavior. A more structure analysis of market-based factors or competitive intensity/industry attributes is presented as an added dimension to the investigation of ethics in business.

Rationality, ethical codes, and an egalitarian justification of ethical expertise: implications for professions and organizations

Article Abstract:

Organizations are a valuable resource for working out resolutions to social problems and issues that the larger society as a whole is unable to effectively solve. The organizational environment provides a place where rational discussions can take place: decision-making structures, membership accountability, control groups and communication systems.
