In defense of self-determination

Article Abstract:

The principle of national self-determination is based on individual moral autonomy, which also underlies liberal democracy. This analysis suggests that self-determination should be regarded as a prima facie right, subject to qualification under certain conditions. For example, limitations are justified for groups that are illiberal or undemocratic, as well as those that include dissenters and minorities, or in cases where secession would lead to war. However, at least in principle, the right to self-determination should be supported by proponents of liberal democracy.

On civic friendship

Article Abstract:

Civic friendship is one of the major factor which bind the modern state together. Hegel's argument on the disappearance of feelings and the dominance of rationality in the state is untenable because political friendship is an important requirement for genuine justice. Furthermore, reproductive activity, which is primarily performed by women remains an important activity which de facto holds people together in a just society.

Friendship and the self

Article Abstract:

Self-enrichment plays a significant part in close friendships. The value of friendships comes from how attachment to friends motivates people and helps contribute to a sense of self. Direction and interpretation of attachment to a friend helps articulate the nature of friendship and shows why other relationships are not equivalent to friendships. Friends help define each other and motivate actions in their interests.
