Medical and scientific uses of human tissue

Article Abstract:

The Nuffield Council on Bioethics formed a working party to assess the ethical and legal aspects of using human tissue. The group aimed to determine proper use from abuse and to make guidelines that could be useful in medical and scientific practice. The group was not established to make proposals that would necessitate new legislation but to minimize restrictions on research without compromising ethics.

The ethics of complementary medicine

Article Abstract:

The popularity of complementary or alternative medicine (CM) is increasing. About one-third of the US population use at least one form of complementary treatment. This growing interest in CM raises several issues concerning its efficacy, safety and cost. Some key ethical issues relating to CM can be addressed based on four principles: respect for autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice.
