African-American women growing in corporate America

Article Abstract:

A growing number of Afro-American women are succeeding in their perilous trek to the corporate world. However, racism and sexism still hinder their efforts for personal advancement. Their unending struggle to assert their right is thwarted by sexist convictions which emphasize docility and subordination among women. Although sexual discrimination in the workplace has persisted for a long time, society views the advancement of Afro-American women as disadvantageous to Afro-American men.Despite all these, opportunities for working Afro-American women still abound.

Why are we here?

Article Abstract:

The 1989 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Conference on the Present Crisis warned the US government that civil disorders were imminent due to the neglect and bigotry Negroes are shown. This warning was ignored, as was the McCone Commission's recommendation after the 1965 Watts riot. NAACP held the 1992 convention to address the issues on unemployment and lack of education of black people and to come up with recommendations on how these can be eliminated and social order attained.

Within a five-year period, the Fair Share Program has raised $47 billion in economic benefits for Afro-American communities. The NAACP has also been instrumental in the formation of the National Association of Black Organizations which seeks to foster cooperation between Afro-American groups. Similarly, the NAACP has been actively involved in educational development and other social programs.
