After the tsunami

Article Abstract:

This article discusses political reform in Turkey. The author maintains that in the 2002 elections Turkish voters put an end to political corruption and paternalism and otped for self-professed 'Muslim Democrats', putting Turkey on the right track toward democratization.

The political convention over the European Union's democratic deficit has underlined some key features of European integration. These features include the need for consensus building as a necessary precondition to reform.
