Battle for Sakhalin

Article Abstract:

The world's largest oil and gas companies are working off Sakhalin Island in Russia's Far East to develop a new energy province, but Russia is demanding a greater share of the profits and pressing the foreign companies to reconsider the terms of their involvement. Canute in the Kremlin

Article Abstract:

President Vladimir Putin's efforts to revive state control over the Russian economy are similar to King Canute's attempt. Canute conducted his exercise to demonstrate its fitility while Putin is not carrying out an experiment for the education of his courtiers. Putin can put the state back in charge but the cost to be paid for it seems to be worse than soaking.
