China and HIV/AIDS - Public-private partnership: Breaking the chain

Article Abstract:

China in 2006 is embracing foreign aid to strengthen national effort after initial reluctance to acknowledge the extent of HIV/AIDS and hence is agreeing a public-private partnership with Merck, Sharp & Dohme, the global research-based pharmaceutical firm. Launched in 2005 in the Liangsham prefecture in the southwestern province of Sichuan, the partnership aims to develop a replicable model that would bring more comprehensive, systematic and higher quality services to those infected and affected.
