A circular from the General Office of the Ministry of Health, China, dated May 20, 2003, provides details of a training plan drawn up for the purpose of prevention and treatment of contagious atypical pneumonia or severe acute respiratory syndrome, training of health technicians at all levels and categories and preparations of ample technical forces for the purpose. Training objectives, subjects and contents, training materials and organization and dispositions are discussed in the circular.

An exceptional news conference on the status of prevention and treatment of atypical pneumonia in China was held at the information office of the state council of the PRC Beijing on 3rd April 2003. According to the analysis of epidemiology and clinical characteristics, this epidemic of atypical pneumonia is preventable and treatable.
