The Clinton administration has announced the Defense Trade Security Initiative, a more to ease shipping US weapons and technology to NATO countries, Japan and Australia. The move will help US defense companies compete in the European market.

1999 proposed Pentagon arms sales exceeded $20 billion

Article Abstract:

The Dept of Defense reported nearly $20.8 billion in proposed arms sales to 19 countries in 1999, just $2 billion less than 1997 and 1998 combined. South Korea was the top buyer, with purchases of $5.4 billion.
