Article Abstract:

Issues related to the relationship between the Chinese government and religion are examined, focusing on the policies of the Chinese Christian churches that are officially sanctioned by the state. Topics include the manner in which church policies agree with state religious policies regarding religion; and church policies regarding education, birth control, baptism, and conversion.

Article Abstract:

The Chinese Communist Party policy toward religion has been implemented successfully, yet continues to face several challenges. These include Western attempts to use religion as a tool for dissention, subversive religious cults, and the need to guide the nearly 100 million religious believers in adapting to socialism.
