Getting realistic about megaproject planning: the case of the new Denver International Airport

Article Abstract:

A study of the relevance of the rational model of decision making to the Denver International Airport reveals that this has a restricted use as it fails to include the political principles which are important to large infrastructure projects. This model can be used successfully only if the political system permits a strong agency to design and implement the project. Alternative planning models that are flexible and based on consensus are needed.

Getting away with murder?

Article Abstract:

The arrest of General Augusto Pinochet Ugarte in London, UK, started a debate about inter-state prosecutions, but little public attention has been paid to political, social, and international complications surrounding the case of the former dictator. Addressing past injustices concerning government officials reveals much about the successes and failure of Chilean government in its transition from authoritarian rule to democracy.

Getting more bang for the educational buck: a microfinancing approach

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of a school-based microfinancing project was undertaken to test existing theories on the relationship between expenditures on instructional activities and academic achievement. Contrary to popular opinion, financing activities geared towards education did not inflate the educational bureaucracy and educators' power but was instrumental in positively influencing student achievement.
