Henry Regnery (1912-1996)

Article Abstract:

Three eminent personalities pay their tributes to publisher Henry Regnery by reminiscing on his contributions to society and literature. A man of varied interests, Regnery loved music, art, literature and gardening. In true Christian spirit Regnery transformed his sorrows and disappointments into laughter and gratitude. Disturbed by the superficiality of modernity, he published books of ideas, which threw light on a debased liberalism and exposed an overbearing government. Among his beneficiaries were Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot and Russell Kirk.

Eternal questions and ultimate concerns

Article Abstract:

Human passions, rationality and motives remain unrestrained despite intellectual advancements. Agnostics and rational thinkers toggle between discontent and satisfaction. Leo Tolstoi portrays traits of human sympathies and moral compassions in his literary works while Fyodor Dostoevsky affirms God's love and care for all beings. Human virtues such as self-sacrifice and sympathy are discussed in Walter Kaufmann's 'Religion From Tolstoi to Camus' in relation to religious beliefs and practices.
