High voltage issues

Article Abstract:

The EU Directive on electricity forces countries to open their electricity industries to foreign competition, which pleases some countries and displeases others. France's electricity is provided by Electricite de France, which has defended its near-monopoly at home while exporting electricity to other countries. Financial and political problems block electrical industry development in Asia. A natural gas power plant is inexpensive to construct and operate, causing a trend towards decentralization in world electricity.
