Hong Kong, Singapore, and "Asian Values."

Article Abstract:

Human rights challenges have raised an argument that 'Asian values' may be considered as more universal and conducive to common goals of economic progress and political stability than Western culture. This issue brings into focus Hong Kong and Singapore's conceptions of democracy and human rights. Singapore has been a staunch critic of Western-style democracy, while Hong Kong has been slowly gaining access to political freedom by the election of pro-democracy politicians.
