Managing peace across the strait: The impact of United States and Chinese actions on contemporary Taiwanese nationalism, 1995-2005

Article Abstract:

The impact of the policies of the U.S. and the People's Republic of China (PRC) on Taiwanese nationalism is examined using quantitative data. The examination has found that PRC military actions directed at forcing Taiwan into submission and explicit U.S. expressions of commitment to defend Taiwan has increased the tendency of those in Taiwan to identify themselves as Taiwanese and desire independent statehood.

Article Abstract:

The leaders of the European Community (EC) agreed to work toward removing the political barriers between European nations at their meeting in Maastricht in Dec. 1991.
