Midwife to democracy: the not-so-ugly American

Article Abstract:

The newly democratized countries are in dire need of help in stabilizing the system that they have chosen. The US would gain much in helping these countries gain stability since democracy is a crucial part of the economic and social development processes. Countries that have just emerged from years of conflict or have peacefully changed their system of governance need help not just in designing the mechanisms of democracy but also in making these work. The US Agency for International Development was organized to help these nations in recognition that democracy is necessary for global stability.

One man, one vote, one time is not democracy

Article Abstract:

The US policy toward Islamic countries should be differentiated between the mainstream Islam and Muslim individuals who advocate terrorism and violence and are seeking to be placed in authority. The Islamic countries that work for social justice, provide a wider-based government and advocate free market will receive support from US. However, they must also understand that the principle of a one-time election is not part of the democratic process and will not be condoned by the US government.
